Course Structure, Modules & Key Features

The bachelor’s program leads to a “Bachelor of Arts (B. A.)” degree and is designed as a full-time program lasting six semesters. A distinctive element of the program is its blended learning concept. Teaching combines on-campus sessions in Berlin with virtual teaching formats and phases of independent study. Because social work relies strongly on communication and interpersonal interaction, in-person teaching plays an important role. Group discussions, reflection exercises and collaborative learning activities help you develop the professional attitude and social competencies required for working with people. Content-wise, the program combines perspectives from disciplines such as psychology, sociology, education, medicine and law. You explore selected topics such as developmental psychology, mental health and trauma as well as approaches to prevention and social support. Practical training is an integral part of the program. A compulsory internship semester lasting about 20 weeks usually takes place toward the end of the studies. During this period, you gain experience in a professional field of social work and are supervised by a lecturer from the university while participating in supervision groups.
